I would recommend this book because it has great humor and is a very good lesson-learning book. This is about a young boy who is faced with becoming friends with a girl after moving in to a new house. His mom is all about friendship and ‘’ getting to know people.’’ Well along with all of the extra drama we go into Juliana’s side of the story she is acting like a girl and wondering what a kiss even feels like I know it wouldn’t be like the one mama and papa give before I go to bed. All she is interested in is boys so now you know her story and his story read this book to see how they connect.

Ten year-old, August (Auggie) Pullman is like any other boy you’ve met. But, with a few notable differences. Auggie was born with a terrible facial deformity and has been homeschooled ever since because of all the surgeries he’s had. Now he faces the biggest surgery of all… Middle school! As Auggie starts middle school at Beecher Prep, he has had countless glances, stares, and partings in the hallway. Let’s not even mention the Plague. He has made a few friends including Jack Will, Charlotte, and Mr. Tushman, the Principal. Everyone else either doesn’t know him, or doesn’t want to know him. Throughout the school year, Auggie goes through friendships, betrayals, successes, failures, and the occasional Julian. Wonder is a breathtaking novel about a boy’s, not just physically, but mentally, transformation throughout middle school. R.J. Palacio is and incredibly talented author.

Everything In A Waffle is about a girl, Primrose, lost her parents at sea, but she never said they were dead, so she had to live with her uncle Jack. Primrose goes on a wild ride when she lost her parents like a guinea pig on fire, had a fire in the neighborhood, and many more. Imagine living in a time where colored children are looked down on, even hated, by many. Bell Teal lives in a time where colored kids are hated. Soon though, colored children come to her school. As she befriends a boy named Darryl she realizes that appearance can be deceiving, and that just because they look different, they are still good people. She must endure teasing and awful words, because of Darryl’s skin. This is a good book to glimpse back into the time when different skin meant different treatment.

In Granny Torrelli makes soup by Sharon Creech Rosie and bailey are best friends. Rosie and Bailey did every thing together and almost every thing the same. For example when one of them wore a sweater with a star on it the other wore a sweater with a star on it, or if one person was having soup for lunch the other had to have soup for lunch. You get the point. They pretty much did every thing together. It sounds like so much fun having someone that you would do every thing like. But when Bailey started to really lose his sight every thing went down hill and Rosie’s grandma (Granny Torrelli) helps Rosie and Bailey. By bonding when they make soup together. I recommend this book to anyone who likes bittersweet books.

Rosie has a fascinating life. Her best friend Bailey is a boy who’s blind, and her granny has many life lessons in her stories. Even though Rosie is always trying to impress Bailey, a lot of the time it just ends in a fight. A new girl moves in down the street, and starts swooning over Bailey. This makes Rosie jealous. Then not to long after another new family moves in across from Bailey. It all ends well.
With amazing, yet wacky characters, melancholy, humor, and even a little drama, Sharon Creech has created a magnificent and engaging book. I recommend this book to preteens and people who enjoy reading realistic fiction.

Walk Two Moons book review by Katharine
Walk Two Moons is a tear wrenching and laugh-ensuring book about a 13-year-old girl, whose mother recently passed on. As Sal travels across the states, she relates the story of Phoebe Winterbottom, & realizes how her story is similar to Phoebe’s, but how her story is different. This book teaches important lessons about empathy & sympathy. The notes left by the mysterious person & the oddness of the various characters make this a unique and special story well worth reading. I would definitely give this book five out of five stars. ***** Happy reading!

Because of Winn-Dixie
By Kate DiCamillo
Realistic Fiction
Published by: Scholastic Inc. New York, NY, 2000
ISBN 0-439-25051-X
It was just one regular day when Opal found a dog in the grocery store. She said the dog was hers when he got in trouble, but he really wasn’t. Opal named him Winn-Dixie after the grocery store and took him home to her father. That’s where the adventure began! Opal and her father just moved to Naomi, Florida and she has no friends except for Winn-Dixie. Later on in the book she meets a librarian, “the witch”, two bald headed twins, a little five year old, another girl her age, and her co-worker. Opal decides to have a party outside with all of them and during the party it started to rain! Winn-Dixie was scared so he hid and Opal tried finding him all over town. And Opal finally found him that she would of had never looked.
With great details, in this book the characters are very realistic, the settings are well explained, and it just seems like another true story. I would highly recommend this book to early teens and kids that have an interest in realistic fiction and also especially to dog lovers.

Sadly it was raining on that day they had to go inside. But when they couldn’t find Winn Dixie, Opal searched everywhere for Winn Dixie with her dad. Her dad was about to give up, and then opal argued with her dad about always giving up on things. After that she came back to her house and surprisingly she saw Winn Dixie! She hugged Winn Dixie and then Opal said to her friend where did you find him and then her friend said Otis was started to play his guitar and then Winn Dixie followed the song and came to her. Opal was so glad she found Winn Dixie. So that’s the main idea of the book Because Of Winn Dixie.

Walk Two Moons
Salamanca Tree Hiddle (Sal) is a normal, thirteen year old girl. She lives in a house just alongside the Ohio River with her Mom and Dad in Bybanks, Kentucky. She loves Bybanks. She loves the field, the chickens, the swimming hole, the chestnut tree, the hayloft, the willow, and the maple tree. She loves her family. But when Sal’s Mom goes suspiciously missing, Sal’s Dad takes control and moves (half of) his family to Euclid, Ohio. Sal fusses over not being able to find her Mom. What if she just went out for a while? What if she was kidnapped? Even worse, what if she was murdered overnight and her body was carried off? A few years later, Sal goes on a car trip to Idaho, in search of her mother with her Gram and Gramps. The trip becomes incredibly boring, and Sal starts to tell the story of Phoebe Winterbottom and the “potential lunatic”. Walk Two Moons will grab your attention, the moment you start reading it. I like this book because it is emotionally engaging, but mostly because I cried like a baby while reading it. I warn you though; there will be a time in the book where you will be eternally engaged in the story. Sharon Creech is obviously an experienced author.

Onion John
Krumgold, Joseph
Harper Collins, New York, New York, 1959
248 pages
ISBN# 0-690-59957-9
“Onion John” is a story about a boy named Andrew Rusch who meets a poor man who grows onions. His nickname is Onion John. While getting to the climax of the story, Onion John and Andy become really good friends. During the story they have a lot of strange adventures. The moral of this story is that even if someone lives different from how you live, that doesn’t mean they are weird. I give Onion John 5 out of 5 stars for a very interesting realistic story. I recommend this book to people older than ten years old.
